Wild Embers Story
Wild Embers CIC was founded in 2017 by Richard Scofield, following his year-long course at the School for Social Entrepreneurs, in Dartington. With over 18 years of experience across care settings, including retirement homes, supported living, and work with individuals facing learning, mental health, and physical challenges, Richard envisioned a project dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and young people. Since moving to Devon, he has focused on children facing challenges from severe behavioural difficulties to high levels of social anxiety, providing therapeutic outdoor experiences that build confidence, resilience, and connection.

In 2020, Mel Triggs joined the team, bringing her expertise as a qualified Therapeutic Forest School Leader. Mel helped expand Wild Embers’ work to include SEND Family Days, Retreats, and community projects. Today, she is a key part of the leadership team, helping Wild Embers reach more children, young people, and families across South Devon.

The mission of Wild Embers is to provide specialist support for children, young people, and families with SEND and SEMH needs. Through our alternative provision, bespoke outdoor learning programmes, and community initiatives, we create safe, engaging spaces where individuals can grow in confidence, explore their potential, and strengthen connections with themselves and others.

At Wild Embers, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive through meaningful experiences in outdoor settings, and we are committed to making a lasting impact in our local community.
