Transitional Support Programme

The Transitional Support Programme (TSP) at Wild Embers is a referral Alternative Outdoor Provision programme designed to help SEND learners re-engage by enhancing their mental health, self-confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.

The TSP offers a transformative outdoor experience, allowing learners to participate in nature-based activities inspired by the Forest School ethos, and creatively linking to curriculum goals in meaningful ways.

The team is led by Mel Triggs, who is trained in therapeutic forest school leadership and specialises in trauma-informed and restorative practices. Our TSP each hold an enhanced DBS and are certified in administering paediatric first aid in an outdoor learning environment. The expertise of the TSP team ensures a safe and supportive environment for all participants and possesses the qualifications and experience necessary to work with vulnerable learners in outdoor settings. Mel ensures that the wellbeing and positive development of each learner is of utmost priority in every session.

With an impressive 90% attendance rate, Wild Embers' alternative provision reflects the dedication and quality of our sessions - we believe in providing a wholesome meal cooked over an open fire - a nourishing second breakfast, to ensure everyone is ready to embrace the day.

All sessions are tailored to meet each child’s unique needs, focusing on social and emotional development to facilitate re-engagement in learning and reintegration back into school where appropriate.

Wild Embers is an approved and recognised alternative provision by Devon County Council and Torbay Council, and we welcome referrals from Devon Agencies and local schools.

Parents and carers are also encouraged to reach out for support for their child or young person with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). For more information, please contact Mel directly at contact@wildembers.org.

Our Alternative Provision offers a stunning natural environment that features a wild meadow, woodland area with a stream, and plenty of outdoor learning spaces, including; an outdoor learning cabin, a covered fire pit circle, and a dedicated STEM classroom.

Our covered veranda around the cabin provides the ideal area for cooking. Cooking over an open fire forms part of our daily sessions, adding to the immersive, hands-on experiences we provide.

Open hands holding a heart shape made out of grass.

The [Wild Embers] team provided a well thought out, highly personalised experience for the children involved. Despite the fact that there were very diverse individual needs within the group, the team ensured that every child's needs were catered for. As well as being a very enriching experience in which all the children were engaged, the impact was seen by teachers within the classroom. All three teachers who had children within the group reported an increase in confidence, engagement, independence and resilience following the course.
