Wild Embers
Igniting Curiosity and
Cultivating Change

Welcome to Wild Embers, we offer a proven and tested alternative provision for children in South Devon - where learning is reimagined and every learner’s potential is encouraged. We know that traditional paths within mainstream education do not suit every child or young person, which is why we provide an alternative approach to learning - one that values individuality, creativity and emotional well-being.

Our unique offering is designed to ignite curiosity, build resilience, and inspire personal growth in a beautiful, serene, outdoor setting that's inclusive, supportive, and safe.

At Wild Embers, we support learners to discover their strengths, embrace their individuality, and prepare for a future where they can thrive. Join us in a brighter, more empowering learning experience.

Our Offer

The Transitional Support Programme from Wild Embers is a referral programme that helps SEND learners re-engage by improving their mental health, self-confidence, resilience, and self esteem. The programme offers a transformative outdoor experience, where learners can engage in nature-based activities inspired by the Forest School ethos, linking to curriculum goals in creative and meaningful ways.

The TSP team is led by Mel Triggs, who is trained in therapeutic forest school leadership and holds expertise in trauma-informed and restorative practices, which provides a safe and supportive environment for all.

We have a 90% attendance rate at our alternative provision, which is testament to the team and quality of sessions provided.

At each session we provide a wholesome meal, cooked on the open fire (a second breakfast), ensuring everyone is well fed and ready to take on the day.

All sessions are designed based on the child’s needs, and supporting social and emotional development, helping them to re-engage.

Wild Embers is an approved and recognised alternative provision by Devon County Council and Torbay Council and welcomes referrals from Devon Agencies and local schools.

Parents and carers are also welcome to request Wild Embers for their child or young person with an ECHP  - contact us directly to discuss this pathway; contact@wildembers.org

Our Approach

Our compassionate, respectful and highly skilled team recognises that a child is as unique as a wild ember. Our sessions are tailored to the needs of the learner, providing specialist support with individual S.M.A.R.T goal setting and child centred nature based support.

Using creative tools, we successfully engage with learners to offer inspired learning.

At Wild Embers, we believe that supporting the whole family is essential to a child's success. That's why we're also proud to support parents and carers.

We offer a range of resources to help navigate the best outcomes for children, ensuring their unique needs are met. Our expert support comes from experienced team who understand the challenges and opportunities in alternative provision. Additionally, we provide opportunities for peer support and shared learning, creating a community where parents and carers can connect, learn, and grow together.

Wild Embers Ritson Site

"The Wild Embers Team provided a well thought out, highly personalised experience for the children involved. Despite the fact there were very diverse individual needs within the group, the team ensured that every child's needs were catered for. As well as being a very enriching experience in which all the children were engaged, the impact was seen by teachers within the classroom. All three teachers who had children within the group reported an increase in confidence, engagement, independence and resilience following the course"
